I'm not sure I fully understand you.
For me you set the boundary condition i.e at x=1 such that you give a given value at this location (Dirichlet condition), or a "slope" (Neumann condition), or you can combine.
Now you say "should not vanish" do you mean any value different from 0 ?
I do not believe a logical condition will work here in the boundary conditions
